Roger Doll, IL Open Tournament Director gave a warm welcomed to 23 players
from 9 states (10 Masters and 13 Majors) 9 from IL; 5 from TN;
2 from KY & MO; and 1 from IN, LA,
OH, PA, & WV. In the 9:00AM business meeting Roger conducted ISCA business, re-elected officers, covered tournament rules and
schedule. He recognizing the longest distance travelers and also
the various state champions. Illinois State Checker Association
contributed $200, Larry Keen $100 and several other contributed to the
prize fund. Also during the business meeting Dr. Richard Beckwith
spoke on behalf of ACF with a formal apology to ISCA leaders due to
forum comments that grew out of control about a tournament situation
which got ugly. We wish that we had controls in place to handle
these kind of matters but at the time it went uncontrolled. We are sorry
it happen, ACF should have purged untrue personal comments and stopped
it.
Alan Millhone, President of ACF had planned to attend and play but his
wife Vickie is undergoing cancer test and he wanted to be with her.
A Sympathy Card was signed by all the players and sent to Don West's
family who lost his Mother a few day before the tournament.
Entry fees were $10.00 x 23 = $230.00 and the Master Division required ACF
Membership. $485.00 of contributions made a Total Cash Prize $715.00
approximately 55% to Masters and 45% to Majors Play was very competitive with the winner for both classes and
the Illinois Championship determined in final round play.
Tournament played 6 Swiss paired rounds with the final round
using King-of-the-Hill pairing.
Please mark your calendar to the first weekend in October for
the Illinois 101 Tournament. This will be their 79th Illinois 101
Counties Open Tournament which is usually held on 1st Saturday & Sunday in
October and this year, falls on the 5th & 6th of October. We will us
the same venue and format as last year, as we do for both Illinois State and
Illinois 101 Counties. Comments from those that attend these two
tournaments say, "The venue is great because it gives checkers public
awareness and exposure it needs, and Super 8 has clean, well maintained
rooms, and conveniently located near Mall." ISCA has negotiated an
excellent rate of $45, a very reasonable rate for normally priced $75 rooms!
Roger Doll presented the Illinois Class A and Class B winners Bryce
Morville
and Earl Kennell their trophies as IL State Class A & B Champions.
Illinois State Checker
